Maintain Spiritual Focus
Theme Scripture
📖 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. — Isaiah 26:3
Guard Against Distraction
Focus is the concentration of attention, energy, and vision on something. When God tells you to focus, He wants you to be undistracted.
One of Satan's strategies against God's people is distraction. He seeks to shift your attention away from the eternal realities of God's Kingdom to circumstances, fears, pressures, and the transient things of life. But we're not ignorant of his devices.
Fix Your Attention on the Word
The Psalmist said, “The godless spread lies about me, but I focus my attention on what you're saying” (Psalm 119:69 MSG). What a mindset! In the midst of opposition, accusations, and distractions, he fixed his attention on the Word.
That's the secret of spiritual stability and progress. When your attention is focused on God's Word, your spirit remains aligned with truth, victory, and divine direction.
The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:18 to look not at the things which are seen but at the things which are unseen. The unseen realm is real, and God's Word unveils its realities to us. Your physical senses may not perceive them, but your spirit can. Therefore, set your heart and affection on eternal things.
Live With Steadfast Purpose
Proverbs 4:25-27 says, “Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee....Turn not to the right hand nor to the left....” In other words, maintain focus.
The Apostle Paul exemplified this mindset when he said, “...one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before” (Philippians 3:13). He understood the power of focused vision.
A double-minded man, the Bible says, is unstable in all his ways and unable to receive anything from God (James 1:8). Compare the two:
- Instability produces weakness and inconsistency.
- Focus produces strength, clarity and victory.
So, live with steadfastness of mind. Run your race with purpose: “So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I fight to win. I'm not just shadow-boxing or playing around” (1 Corinthians 9:26 TLB).
Stay spiritually focused on the Lord, on His Word, and on the eternal crown set before you. As you do, He'll keep you in perfect peace, strength, unwavering prosperity and victory. Hallelujah!
Key Lessons
Today's Rhapsody of Realities Daily Devotional discussed the importance of spiritual focus, why lack of it is a problem for many Christians, and why its mastery is basic for a successful Christian life.
Ways to Stay Focused Today
Today's devotional shows how to keep your attention where it belongs. Here are three ways to put it into practice.
- Focus on what God is saying. The Psalmist said, “...I focus my attention on what you're saying” (Psalm 119:69 MSG). When opposition, accusations and distractions come, fix your attention on the Word. That's the secret of spiritual stability and progress.
- Set your heart on eternal things. Look not at the things which are seen but at the things which are unseen (2 Corinthians 4:18). Circumstances, fears and pressures try to shift your attention from the eternal realities of God's Kingdom. God's Word unveils those realities, so set your heart and affection on them.
- Run with purpose. “So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I fight to win” (1 Corinthians 9:26 TLB). Live with steadfastness of mind, since instability produces weakness and inconsistency, while focus produces strength, clarity and victory. Stay focused on the Lord, on His Word, and on the eternal crown set before you.
Action Point: Refuse distractions today. Fix your attention on God's Word, set your heart on eternal things, and run your race with clarity and purpose.
