Devotional by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, from Rhapsody of Realities (Loveworld Publishing), October 5, 2026

Today's Rhapsody Article is titled:

He Knows More Than You Do

Theme Scripture

📖 ...and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? — Esther 4:14

Key Points In Today's Article:

  1. Not understanding God's instructions fully doesn't disqualify them: There are moments God calls you to act, give, speak, serve, or take a stand, and you may not fully understand the significance of what He's asking — but He knows more than you do.
  2. The woman with the alabaster box saw what others couldn't: The disciples condemned her act as wasteful, but Jesus said she had done a good work, preparing His body for burial — a remarkable act that would be remembered wherever the Gospel was preached.
  3. Esther's personal decision carried national consequences: Mordecai challenged her to recognise that she may have come to the kingdom "for such a time as this" — what seemed like a personal decision carried consequences for an entire nation.
  4. God's instructions connect to realities beyond our understanding: He sees the future, knows the impact of your obedience, and understands the eternal value of the choices He places before you — that's why you can trust Him completely.
  5. Trust His wisdom above your own reasoning: When He calls, respond. When He directs, obey. When He opens a door for service, sacrifice, or commitment, embrace it with joy, because He sees what you cannot see.

Practical Application

Knowing that God sees what you cannot see should shape how you respond when He calls you to act. Here's how to live this out:

  • Obey even when you don't see the full picture. "...who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14) — recognize that your present position and moment may carry a purpose beyond what you can currently see.
  • Don't dismiss what looks like "too much" to give or do. Jesus said of the woman's act, "she hath wrought a good work upon me" (Matthew 26:10) — be willing to give what others might call wasteful, trusting that God sees its true worth.
  • Trust God's wisdom over your own reasoning. "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5-6) — let this be your posture whenever His instructions don't fully make sense to you yet.

Action Points From Today's Message:

  • I will respond when God calls, even when I don't fully understand the significance of what He's asking.
  • I will trust His wisdom above my own reasoning in every decision.
  • I will embrace every door of service, sacrifice, or commitment He opens with joy.

📚 FURTHER STUDY

  • Esther 4:13-14 — 13Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews. 14For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
  • Mark 14:8-9 — 8She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. 9Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 — 5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

There're moments in life when God calls you to act, give, speak, serve, or take a stand, and you may not fully understand the significance of what He's asking of you. At such times, it's important to remember a simple truth: He knows more than you do.

Consider the woman who broke her alabaster box of precious ointment and poured it on the Lord Jesus (Matthew 26:7). The disciples condemned her act as wasteful. They thought the ointment should have been sold and the money given to the poor; they were upset (Matthew 26:8-9).

But the Lord saw what they couldn't see and said, "…Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me…For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial" (Matthew 26:10-12). Then the Lord made a most remarkable statement in verse 13 that wherever the Gospel would be preached throughout the world, her act would be remembered.

The woman didn't fully understand the eternal significance of what she had done, but the Lord did. The same truth is seen in the story of Esther. As queen, she had a position of influence, but when her people faced destruction, Mordecai challenged her to recognise the significance of her place and time, saying, "…who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14).

What seemed like a personal decision for Esther carried consequences for an entire nation. God had positioned her for a purpose greater than she could see. Many times, the Lord's instructions are connected to realities beyond our present understanding. He sees the future.

He knows the impact of your obedience. He understands the eternal value of the choices He places before you. That's why you can trust Him completely. When He directs you, He's not trying to take something from you; He's leading you into His greater purpose for your life and into blessings whose full significance may not yet be apparent.

Therefore, trust His wisdom above your own reasoning. When He calls, respond. When He directs, obey. When He opens a door for service, sacrifice, or commitment, embrace it with joy. He sees what you cannot see, and He knows more than you do.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for your wisdom, love and guidance in my life. I trust your plans and purposes for me, knowing that you see beyond the present and understand the eternal significance of every step of my obedience. My heart is yielded to your leading, and I walk confidently in the path you have ordained for me, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
